Last saturday we went up to this top secret backyard jib park. This place was cluttered with endless ramps and rails, all scattered throughout the yard in no particular order. Ian and I spent the day going from one obstacle to the next. It was a good time.

On Wednesday night I went to pick up B$ on my bicyclete. I decided to try to do a test run with making a stop motion style video. I blasted about 700 shots, then threw them on the computer, picked out a song, and kazam, I had my first stop motion video. I was kinda stoked on the prospect of using this technique to make a snowboard vid. So the next day I went up to arctic valley for a little filming making/ boarding mission. I was by my lonesome, so I had to use my remote shutter to snap some of the shots (yeah, im a huge nerd). I kinda hope someone saw me because im sure I looked absolutely ridiculously. This is just a trial run. Their are a lot of ideas floating around in my dome about how you could use this to make something sweet, but im not sure I have the patience for it.

Yesterday, B$ and I went up to hiland for a few turns. The sun was warm and the snow was creamy. It was really fun.

We got an email from a homey on the east coast which included a few pictures of him getting rad at Jay Peak. Supposedly this place is the jam as far as the east goes. B$ has been raving about it. We'll definitely be making a trip up their next year since B$ and I will be back on the east by the end of july.

Earlier this week we found ourselves down at the downtown zone setting up a mini shred line. The line was fun, the snow was soft and the sun was out, so it was a pretty good time. A few days later, B$, Cara and I returned for a little more shredding. The highlight came when this big buff black dude in a wife beater was walking by and stopped to watch for a second. I shredded down and on my way back up, I looked over at the dude and with a big grin on his face he said," Man, you are one bad boy." Awesome.

I've always thought Logan was pretty good at skiing but I really had no idea how good. As a snowboarder I have no idea what tricks are hard or cool and half the time I dont know what hes doing. However, according to other skiers hes really good because he just won level one productions contest "superunknown." This essentially means next year he will become a huge superstar in the ski world. Hip hip hurray! If you see him givem a big old sloppy kiss.

Ian and I have always talked about building a rythum section. It has always been that dream feature that would maximize airtime while allowing for tweak after tweak. We started pushing some piles together last week, and yesterday it was finally ready. We struggled for the first few hours trying to get everything dialed. There were a lot of flat landings and sore knees, but as the day started to wind down it finally started to work. Five jumps total, I was really excited.

spring break 2010, whooaaa!!!

There was a lot of ideas thrown around this year about spring break options, most included some mexican destination town, lots of coronas and tequila, college girls and mtv, but in the end we settled on the vibrant town of valdez. The crew was made up of Brendan, Ian, Logan, Matt, Travis, Becky, Rachele and myself, Josh. In true valdez fashion, the weather was relentless. It pulled us in with one nice day our first day there and left us with a nice day on our way back home, just to insure we would be back. The five days in between it snowed, non stop.

It was late, it started to snow really hard and the bad girls club finale was almost on, so we called it a night a little early.

The next few days we returned to the same treed zone shredding a bunch of mini lines and dropping cliffs. Part of the crew was stoked, the other part not so much. Logan, Matt and Travis took off a few days early. Maybe it was because we had lured them in under false pretenses, promising sunny days and bikini clad woman.

Day 5 brought us good enough light to see some of the mountains around us. We lapped the easement for a few hours, took a few road runs, then poached the cat skiing zone. So sick.

Our last day was spent lapping this zone. We each got about 7000 vertical in the 4 hours before we had to leave. So sick. Definately the best turns of the trip.

We rolled through Anchorage and straight into Girdwood on saturday so we could hit this "secret" zone on sunday.

We exited the "secret" zone here, also happens to be the house I spent some of my childhood in.

Better than a Hallmark Thank You

A Mr. Ian Chang, known for his ridiculous ideas, big jumps and extreme personality, was able to put together doom/love's biggest (and only) annual event. Its that time of year again. All the snow starts to melt and we think what is going on? Is it spring already? Far from it. It simply means that its time for Fur Rondy. The weather seems to know that Anchorage is attempting to have a winter festival with lots of fun activities necessitating snow over many parts of downtown. So all the snow begins to melt in an attempt to thwart the fun. But this year doom/love is prepared. We have been secretly stashing our snow piles for the purpose of making our favorite high flying event a reality. Rondy Big Air. We are at it again...

Today and Monday, B$ and I went up to arctic valley for some turns. Monday the snow was super light and today it was much more dense as it has been blowing in the mountains the past few days. Both days were pretty rad. Turns that you have to hike for are just so much more rewarding.

During the hike today my mind started racing with thoughts of how awesome these kind of hikes around anchorage would be with a noboard. Once home, I started scoping some videos on youtube, and I got more and more excited, and then I watched a video of Wollie Nyvelt that really sealed the deal. After a stop at wally world and about ten minutes of constructing, I had myself something that closely resembles a noboard. I was way to excited to try her out so i rolled down to the closest sledding hill to see if she was all i dreamed she would be. And she was. I really only got a taste but it was all i needed.

After taking about 6 or 7 runs, I pulled out my camera and snapped a few Mike Basich style self portraits*. I had tried it before with a timer but I hadn't tried it with a remote. Definitely difficult to get the timing especially since im pretty sketchy on the noboard. Kind of a refreshing way to shoot photos though.

*For those of you that dont know, Mike Basich has captured some of the most epic snowboard shots ever by himself using a high powered remote. Scope here.

Rachele and I drove out to Jackson Hole to hang out and Party with the Hogland's on New Year's Eve. We "splurged" and brought a $30 bottle of champaign to the party... little did we know that they would be popping Christal all night. Pete, Madeline, Rach and I woke up early and headed to the mountain to shred 15 inches of fresh. Here is my first run of 2010. Rachele got this song stuck in my head so this one is dedicated to her.

After the day was done we headed back to Denver so I could catch my flight to Istanbul.... Turkey footage will be coming out soon.

The turkey adventure has concluded for 2/3 rds of us. Brendan is kickin it somewhere in colorado and im sitting on my couch in ak. Ian however decided to stay in turkey for a few extra days with Burak (our istanbul couch surfing host). This decision was made at 2 in the morning after a long night, about 6 hours before our plane was to leave for boston and with about a hundred dollars left in the bank. Stoked to see how that is going to work out. As of the last update, hes bringing 20 people into istanbul to show them the way of urban boarding and seeing a Holy Ghost concert tonight. Sounds rad, definitely a little jealous.

Our last post of pics was up to our first day in palandoken. Our second day we got word of free lift tickets in kartalkaya, so we dipped out early, but not before getting a few shots.

We set this feature up in the most high profile location in front of this big spendy five star hotel. It was a 15 stair into a 10 foot drop right after the rail. We started setting up the feature then realized their were two cars in the way. Not only did the hotel move the cars for us and let us hit the feature until we got our tricks, but they also gave us a tour of their ski resort. On top of that, the tour guide was probably the best looking girl we had seen in turkey.

Once I was able to pull Brendan and Ian from their new found turkish love, we pulled an all nighter to get to kartalkaya for the next day of riding. Kartalkaya was okay. We rode the resort(thanks to burak), got some pow slashes, brendan and ian impressed locals with park trickery, met the most outrageous expat ever that called brendan and i out for checking out his daughters, hung out with timo and his park crew, skipped out on a 50 dollar bill for instant coffee, drank lots of efes, got banned to the dumpster area to sleep in our van, got kicked out of the dorukkaya hotel, got tricks and peaced out.

Mt. Ilgaz. That run down the middle is the one and only run on the mountain.

Though getting kicked out of Dorukkaya was a bummer, it became apparent hours later that it was a blessing in disguise. We showed up in Ilgaz, scoped the area, then instantly found the funnest people in the area and had the best turkish style dance party for about 2 hours before they had to get on the bus and head home. So we were left high and dry at 8, pretty positive we werent going to find anything that could compare. We were wrong, we found the university owned hotel and continued the turkish style circle dancing into the wee hours of the night.

We awoke to blue bird skies and probably the raddest zone we had seen on the whole trip. There were big mountains, bowls, cliffs, trees, everything, all within hiking distance. Unfornately, this was going to be our last day on snow so we stayed close to the mini resort and stacked a bunch of footy.

Again the night went off, with a few rounds of flip cup before another long night of dancing with our new friends.

Once the music stopped in the disco, we came back to the hotel and the guy on the far right of the picture above played the best set ever, ever. He played all these turkish songs that everyone knew and sang along to. It was hands down the best kumbaya i have every been a part of. So rad.

After the second epic night in Ilgaz, we woke to rain in the morning so we dipped to istanbul to do the tourist thing for a few hours before brendan had to leave the next morning.

The trip was awesome. It will be a tough one to beat. We were lucky enough to met such great people that really showed us a great time and treated us really well (minus Dorukkaya management). Thanks everyone and to the few of you that are coming to alaska this summer or if you want to make a trip, stay in touch. We would be super stoked to be able to return the favor.

Oh yes, I received my fair treatment of vitamin d while visiting Jules in Carlsbad, CA. The week went above and beyond my wildest expectations, to a point of severe awesomeness. Not only was I greeted with presents, including a Lisa Frank puzzle and Unicorn Diary, but I was also toted throughout the beautiful, hot, sunny and somewhat trendy region.

Q: What is a perfect date?

A: A long walk on the beach.

While our date was not extremely romantic, it did consist of walking on a beach, guacamole, Dos XXs and quesadillas. Pretty much fulfilling all criteria for a "perfect date".

The search for good snow has taken us all over northeastern turkey. Here are some images from the adventure. I promise there will be some words to go with these pictures eventually... until then: Eat, shred, drive, shred, sleep, (shred in dreams), repeat.

I wanted to surf this right point so bad... I didnt see a surfboard the whole time I was in Turkey.

Ramy made a turn like this on our ride down a face in Palandoken... it didnt end well. Ive got it on tape if you wanna see it.A LOT of our mornings looked like this. I kinda miss sleeping in my boardbag.

We saw a small suspension bridge so we decided to stop for a break from driving. Coincidentally on the other side of the road Ram spotted some caves in a ribbon of sediment about half way up a plateau. These caves were really old, and they were dug out of this soft rock by humanswho knows how long ago. they went way back into the side of the plateau with seperate rooms and were all interconnected. There were even upper and lower levels. This was a surprise find and really cool.

Ahhh Sarikamish. Our second opportunity at fresh powder was not wasted.

OK. So this pic shows how our trip almost came to a sudden and horrific end! The viz, as you can see is about one pole distance. (25 meters) We were coming up a pass and it started getting really slick. After sliding backwards and stomping the breaks for a really stylish minibus backside 180, I maneuvered to the next straight stretch of road so we could don our chains and show the hill who was boss. As I popped the trunk to pull out the chains Ramy scampered over to the side of the road to take a pee. Not more than 10 seconds after I say to ramy; ''Do you hear something?'' I turn around to find a giant plow truck sliding out of controll right towards us. Im frozen and Ramy dives into the ditch still peeing as the 10 ton truck blows by, just a foot from our minibus and Rams stained shorts.

As we were rejected by the Kachkar we were diverted to a tiny mountain village were we taught a few middle aged muslim fellows how to snowboard. It was actually really spiritual for me to drop in on a jump while the priest wailed in arabic over the loud speakers, and the call for prayer echoed over the snowy village.

Turkey is a bit behind in their on-mountain fashion. The silly jester hats, dinosaur tails, multi colored fleece tassles and hats with bright colored hair coming out the top are all the rage.

Uludag to Kartalkaya

Here are some photos from our trip so far. We arrived in Istanbul, spent a few days in Uludag and then a few hours in Kartalkaya... More words to follow.

Istanbul is a seemingly endless city. We spent quite a few hours exploring the nooks and crannies of a pretty popular area called Taksim. The density and age of the city is so different than other places, its hard to explain.

Our team is constantly striving for the perfect hand-plant. A lot of them went down on this snowbank. It was the first thing we shredded in Turkey.
We got pretty busy our first night in Uludag: Ramtime baggin the first drop of the trip.

This guy had never seen this kind of weapon so i demonstrated its power for him.

Home... for a little bit.

BRT went huge on this deck drop/gap over stairset. The hotel manager proceded to yell a whole bunch of Turkish words out the window at us. I will translate what he said since im so good at Turkish now: ``You doomslashlove boys are amazing! Im so glad you are snowboarding on my deck! I love your website and will have a bronze statue of this jump permanently placed on the deck along with a plaque with your guys names on it! ``

Currently I, B$, am sitting (well, more like half sitting, half laying) in bed, in California. Im staying in Carlsbad with my friend Jules for a few days to catch up on work. There's lots to be done, including: blog update, snowboard, beach, hot tube, snowboard, sleep in, eat, eat again, and wander around aimlessly. I am going to take advantage of my body's failure to adapt to the time change (Maine to Cali: 3 hour difference), and launch full swing into a blog update. Not only am I a little bored sitting here at 5:30 in the morning, but I also want to have the satisfaction of checking "blog update" off of my list of things to do. With that, Im going to back up a little to when Ram and I were in Maine, where we also did lots of work.

We started the trip out with a little backyard snowboard time. Here Ram is seen in the air, grabbing his board while maneuvering over a hip-jump he built.

How many people can say that they have jumped the bog road?? My guess is not many.

My mom is trying her hand at making homemade wine. Im trying my hand at jumping over her grape vine fence and stone wall. Both taste excellent.

Late last week I headed out with my sledmobile to Turnagain. There was a heavy fog hanging around Anchorage but once I was deeper into Turnagain Arm the clouds dissapeared.

I hit the parking lot around 11:30 and ran into Sergey of the Binge Crew. We geared up, hopped on our rockets and went up and over. Two feet of untracked champagne powder greeted us when we reached the ridge.

Every year it is inevitable that i will get bored hanging out inside watching friends reruns and attempt to make some kind of snowboard obstacle in my backyard. This winter i am in a new place, which means a chance for a new setup. My yard has about 8 to 10 feet of vertical, a big step up from my flat yard last year. At first, I figured I would just build a little bump to do grabs off of, but once I got building, things started to come together. In the end, I ended up with a triple line, a straight on gap, and both a frontside and backside hip. So sick.

For the last two days B$ and I(ram) have ventured up to the slopes of arctic valley for some pow shredding. Fatefully, my snowboard was left in the back of BRT's truck so I was forced to break out the old sims blade. I always find myself to be fairly resistant to take the blade out, but when i do its the best, ever single time. Its about a 170, 17 inch stance, 25 to 30 degree forward angle on both bindings, flat tail and big pointy nose, but it is somehow the greatest board ever for shredding pow turns. It really brings me back to my roots, makes me feel like i did here.

Me and Trick went up to Jays yesterday for another epic session. There is just a ridiculous amount of fun to be had up there. The session started out slow, but once the lights came on, things came together. We shredded until our legs started shaking, and then took about 10 more runs. It was awesome. Jay is awesome.

We set up the mountain bike jump to add a little airtime to the line. BRT blastin a method.

Friday night:

Logi, Ram, Garret, me, Jay and a few others met up at the Northern Slope and took some laps on the new set up. Instead of hammering man sodas (beer) all night we hammered Jay's new 20 ft hand rail.

I spent a lot of time over the last 6 years lapping parks in Colorado surrounded by Scenesters and it was great to finally get in on an Alaskan park session... seriously the most fun I've had hitting rails for years. Thanks Jay!

-Went to work

-Anchorage got a flash snow storm resulting in about an inch of snow

-I became extremely excited about the season ahead

I went on a soul boardin' mission up to Tincan Mountain yesterday. It's rewarding to put in some energy to get to the top of a mountain, even if the ride down is less then epic. Turnagain has a pretty solid base and it looks like we'll be getting some more to top it off in the next few days. As you can see some of the peaks around that zone are quite extreme... Days like this make me remember why I live in the last frontier...

Saturday

The founding fathers of D/L opted out of the rail jam sesh to go bathe in the warm light on the hillsides of the majestic chugach mountain range. We ran around the foothills looking for a zone to maximize the 4inches of snow that we were graced with earlier in the week.

The amount of snow we got really is just such a tease. It looks all soft and wonderful until you rip into a backside carve and spray rocks everywhere, still we couldnt resist. Eventually we posted up on a little spot the wind had filled in and made two little back to back jumps to log some airtime.

Dino Devo got after it last night at Trick or Street. Devo took home the Best Trick award. He pulled out a smooth spin slider and went home with a new board. Way to represent Devon!

Logan Imlach won Best Trick for skiers. He mercilessly crushed the competition. If there were 2nd and 3rd place for best trick he would have won those too. Logan's new school moves changed peoples lives that night...

next weekend, with or without mother natures help, buttery fresh and northern boarder will have a rail sliding talent off, trick or street. Ill be there with my board strapped to my feet, i heard matt wild is the one to beat, maybe I will be the one to defeat, golly gee that would be sweet, i would send all my friends a tweet, anyway, grab some candy to eat, come up to hilltop and grab a seat, maybe their will be a girl you will meet, mosquitos are gone, you don't need deet, bundle up for the lack of heat, its gonna be neat.

Besides getting really good at ryhming words, we haven't been up to a whole lot of awesomeness lately. A little while ago we were coerced into making a little infomercial at northern boarder with hozer. Scope. I think the idea was sweet.

Ghostland Observatory is coming soon to rock our socks off. Hozer put together a little promo with a bunch of footy from ians space party. How legit was that party. Scope.

The original plan was for a solid crew of 8 or more people to head out on two boats to attempt climbing a tide water glacier, and film snowboarding on it. Due to some mechanical mishaps and unfavorable weather, the crew quickly became a duo (still considered a crew in some places). Ian and I (BRT) launched out of Whittier as the sun was disappearing behind the towering mountains. With delusions of grandeur in our minds we sailed (Chang style) into the unknown... watch the video and see what happens. The vid is 9:00 minutes long, so sit back and enjoy...

We have now reached the in between season, but its not bringing us down one bit. We have taken advantage of this time to do a little dry land training.

Last weekend I was hanging out at Hozer headquarters scoping some footy. We looked over some footy from the space party (mini vid up soon) and checked the stuff that Brendan and Ian got on their adventure out of whittier that same weekend. All of it looked really awesome, and I was really jealous of the shred mission. Brendan and Ian didnt make it to snow, but they definitely got down on some boarding.

On sunday, me and B$ set out on a mini adventure of trying to find that elusive alaskan snow in the middle of september. In previous years we have had good luck shredding up at the lane glacier at hatchers pass, but we had only been their mid october when there was about a foot and a half of new snow on the glacier. We had heard that you can snowslide their year round, so with no questions asked, we went for it.

On the hike up we played with many of these little guys.

At this point we were about an hour and a half in on the hike and we were so stoked (also soaked). I was certain that their would be all kinds of sweet rock gaps and taps, and perfect corn snow for rippin turns. High, high hopes me and B$ had. I couldn't even handle myself. I had to take a time out and pick some tail and grab some nose... do a few tailblocks.
Took a few minutes to scope the lane hut and look for any left over goodies. Nothing but the usually assortment of smoking devices, mouse traps, american flags and epic tales (their was some story about a girl that fell in love with three guys at the hut but realized they were too smelly for her, seriously).
So we finally reached the glacier after about two and a half hours of hiking, only to find out that glaciers are actually made of ice. It was quite a surprise. I do believe I knew this before taking on the adventure but when someone said it was a go, i just went with it. I guess im just a little too excited for snowboarding.

So we got in the car, and drove home. I tried to take "artsy" shots the whole way home while listening to Bon Jovi. Jovi's such an inspiration.

Suicidal Cars

B$, Hoze and I (ramtime) ventured down to the car graveyard down by the motorcross track on monday for some filmmaking, shutter snapping, deep pondering, adventuring, and other awesomeness. If you don't know about this zone, its about a 300ft high bluff on the edge of a motorcross track, where motorheads get all kinds of hammered and send broken cars over the edge for their last ride until reaching the bottom and instantly dying.

This is about as much glass as can be found on any window. Every last little bit has been smashed and broken off every car.

After informing my dad of our adventure down to the graveyard, he told me the story of when he and friends hurled a vw over the edge. The story involved being pulled in the vw behind a truck and smashing into objects at high speeds. When their was no more destruction to be had, they put the vw out of its misery. This makes me wonder about the stories behind all the other cars down their, especially the brand new dodge caliber that looks pretty new to its surroundings.

This is where most of my days started. The beautiful Kai Aloha. Straight out of the old days but cozy and awesome location.

This "Simple" cruiser got me around Honolulu in style. Prolly got over 50 miles on this bad boy before I gave it to a pretty local girl in exchange for a green tea frappachino and a deep conversation about dinosaurs on a park bench.

Enter BRT.

East of Honolulu is a stretch of super rad coastline.

Sandy Beach is where heros are made and the rest end up with way too much sand in their shorts.

Pink floaties were in full effect!

David Hasselhoff told us we couldnt pink floatie anymore so BRT layed the stick down.

This super secret spot is where aliens land when they come to vacation in Hawaii.

We found a leg on the beach!

Brendan "loved" several rocks on our trip. This was one of them.

We hired this pretty girl to keep a constant stream of bubbles around us the entire trip.

She also took this pic.

The south swell was awesome most of the time we surfed. By my calculations about 0.0017 % of our time on the water was spent actually riding waves, the rest was just paddling around and getting washingmachined. All in all it was a sweet trip.

Ramabeck are in Oahu right now so we will see soon how hard they repped the D/L in the HI.

This is the top. I'm starting here because this is where all the action happened. (and because I loaded the pictures in the wrong order, and honestly dont want to mess around with them again)

We got Kung Fu on Saturday.

Ram fell asleep on his floaty.

The blue swords are a superior protection against spells, yet in the end quick moves, high kicks and skillful verbal abuse always win the battle.

The group on the way up. Look at us... so innocent. Note my perfectly chosen location, directly behind Clint's ever so tight shorts. I did have to fight the others off for my place.

The next day we decided to spoil our selves with a little fun in the sun. Pictured here is Ram and Chang getting some in the mud.

The weekend was a blast. It was full of battles, holla hopping, dancing, biking, skidding, log lynching, swimming, mudding (pretty much everything that you can add an ing to). BRT brought a bunch of bikes to Girdwood, allowing for us to bike gang around forest fair. Good times with good people; it was a truly epic weekend.

Certain members of the team (BRT and Chang) have left the vicinity of Alaska in search of waves, tans and babes. I am sure they will return with tans and epic shots of waves, yet as far the last item goes.... lets just wish them luck. Ram and I (B$) are somehow surviving, although we both share the same feeling of abandonment. The first day was the hardest; luckily we had several romantic comedies to pull us through. We were in a constant mix of laughing and crying, often confused as to which we were doing at that time. The next day brought on a whole new set of emotions. We were angry, and felt betrayed. We had to prove we could survive on our own. So we went on a hike, quietly hoping that we would get lost. That would teach them right? Throughout the hike we discussed if we should turn doom/love into a sewing/quilting club, sang songs, jumped in the air, and forgot all of our bitter thoughts. It's amazing what a little mountain air will do; we started the hike on an emotional roller coaster- feeling like a young girl does when she has her heart broken for the first time. But by the time we got to the top we were hopeful and happy. Here are some pics that we took along the way. Enjoy...

Summer Slackin

In order to be able to shred and travel all winter I make a few sacrifices during the summer. Unfortunately working 12 hour days doesn't leave much time for taking pics or posting media on the blog. The upside is I've been having a ton of fun in Valdez meeting cool new peeps.

I've been working for the past 20 days straight and am about to get a nice break... I'm meeting Chango out in Oahu for a week to capture some adventuring and surf shredding. Another epic adventure presented itself over the long weekend. Doom/Love decided that, in order to cover as much territory as possible, we should break into smaller groups. After counting off in twos we went our separate ways. I (Becky) got paired off with Ram, who had an itch to make it to Homer. The first day we traveled South and found our selves in a very crowded Clam Gulch. We loaded up our backpacks and trudged down the busy beach in search of a quiet sanctuary which we could call home for the night.

Quarter Pipe Finale

Hose, Chango and I (BRT) headed out to Turnagain Pass after an epic night camping at the spot on Bird Point 2 weekends ago. All of the ash from Redoubt was melting the snow fast and we figured it would be our last chance to shred/film a large feature. Our goal was to find a good natural obstacle to construct a 1/2 of a 1/2 pipe to use to grab some air time. After hopping on the sleds, cruising up the hill through the slush, and exploring for a while we finally found something that would work. Minimal time was spent shaping and Ian got to blasting some methods and other stuntricks.

Alaska has been getting an awesome spring. Super warm, tons of sun, lots of bike riding and bbqs, but that also means our little bit of snow has disappeared quite quick. And any snow we have left is pretty gray because of the ash we got in march. We went up to the bunkers on top of arctic valley to get the last bit of shredding in and try to finish filming our mini movie that may make the cut into the thinkthank's bonus.

And of course we did some shredding. There was pretty limited snow, so we had to work pretty hard to set up the dinkiest little stuff, but it was fun.

I got a few boxes of film last week just in time for polaroid week. This 1960's instant camera gives me some of the best results i've ever gotten with a camera. Thank you thrift store. Here's a few shots from our last few camping trips and shred missions.

Weekend Update

Started the weekend off with some pond skimming and wallriding. Pond skimming ended bad for me, twice.

Ian continues to impress with his multi dimensioned sense of style.

Sessioned a natural quarterpipe up at arctic valley on saturday. Lots of failed handplants went down. There was some good spectating to be had at this obstacle.

We went up to the old military buildings. A little barbwire can't stop us.

Hose and I went up to Turnagain a couple weeks ago and got a chance to enjoy the sunshine. We shot up the mountain and got after it for a couple hours, taking advantage of the April pow before it settled into spring. It was a perfect chance to capture some images of Hose man in pure form... loving life.

Yesterday we went up to Arctic Valley for the annual dirt jump drop air we often frequent in the spring time. When we first got there it was blue bird and at least 75 degrees. It was awesome. The day gradually got a little cloudier, but that didnt stop the good times.

After the double line, we went and explored the military buildings up on the hill. It was fun, but we didn't find any missing top secret documents that explain JFK's assassination, or did we? No we didn't. We just took picture of each other and peaced out.

March Sunshine

This time of year in Alaska the sun starts coming out more consistently and hovering above the horizon longer and longer. During winter you tend to forget how much the sun fuels your motivation and allows you to shred, dance, rock and grab boards later into the night.

March 1st: 10 hours 26 minutes 50 seconds of sunlight

March 31st: 13 hours 19 minutes 26 seconds of sunlight

That is 2 hours 53 minutes 36 seconds of more time to be tweakin tindys and spinin twirlybirds. During March I spent most of this time meeting/chilin with rad new people, shredding with my friends, poppin backies, filming, snowcycling (similar to snow motorcycle), exploring, motorhoming, and enjoying life like there will be no tomorrow. March was one of those months that makes living in Alaska and dealing with ultra extreme conditions and darkness worth it.

For most of the adventures I had my camera with me but was having so much fun I left it in the bag most of the day. I did get some nice shots but not the rad action that Ram has been capturing in the last posts.

Many of my shred mornings start by rolling over to the House and connecting with the rest of the crew.

Ram and I spent an afternoon trecking through the woods in the Hills of Anchorage. Right before sessioned this spot a majestic family of elusive Lynx passed us.

The first weekend of the month I cruised out to Valdez to explore and shred an area I had only seen in the summer. Ian and a rowdy crew from the AK Shred Club rolled out in an RV for spring break and we all shredded like crazy for 4 days. My pics don't do the fun any justice but believe it was awesome.

The next weekend Ian and I went riding at Alyeska with some friends and met a rad new possie fo shredders. Apre' consisted of the Sitz and taking over the Brown Bear. The night ended with some fantastic hot tubbin.

The last weekend in March Ryan Cal and I headed out to Valdez to meet up with the new fun possie (Jess/Jen/Cage) and see what the Valdez Kite festival was like. We loaded up the sleds and rallied out last minute on Thursday and woke up to sunshine and RVs just south of Thompson pass.

Re-visited a spot I shredded a few weeks earlier. Ryan and I almost fell off a 30 ft ledge into open water... Good thing my spider senses told me to stop.

The weather rolled in on Saturday and I had the opportunity to get on a trainer kite and scoot around. Shredding on a kite is difficult with the added complexities, props to guys that are flying hundreds of feet tweaking a sick method.

Met Tom, Eric, Betsy, and a cool crew of peeps that love get down in the mountains and kill it.

Yesterday we went over to a gravel pit that I used to frequent quite oftenly as a wee little boy. As everyone knows, gravel pits are the best place to get rad when your a little kid. From making bike jumps to jumping off big dirt piles to making sweet sledding trails, it has all you could ask for. We went back yesterday to relive all that awesomeness.

We shredded for a little while, and then we were confronted by a rival gang of kids. We were scared that we might be on there turf and that they were going to muscle us out of the gravel pit. All they wanted was a hammer. Unfortunately, I left mine at home yesterday. Bummer, what are the chances. The rival gang was made up of Nina and Raymond. They were really cool. They brought us over to their treefort and gave us a tour. Their fort was all time awesome.

Friday night started off mellow. None of us were feeling like getting too rowdy. We went out to grab a quick beer and holler at some homies... saturday morning rolled around quicker then expected so we were off to a slow start. We made our way down to turnagain with coffee, stories from the night before, fistpumping to the sounds and syncronized dance moves. As we pulled into the pass, it was looking all time. We hiked into a new zone, looking for the mystical unicorns that we have dreamt about. Upon reaching the steepness, we were pleasantly surprised with the slope upon us to shred. Unfortunately as we found our first airtime inducer, we were getting glared at by looming clouds. As the day wore on, clouds turned to a snowy blizzard, but we shredded on, ending the day the best possible way, tweaking methods.

Classic method. I can't say enough about methods. There so awesome. I like grabbing melon and then tweaking it into a full on method. I think Ian tweaks before he grabs. I wonder how Brendan does them?

We have been running around town trying to get down on the last few urban obstacles before we get rain/ash/warm weather. Its been productive at times. We're stacking some fairly appealing snowboard trickery.

You can't talk about spring break without bringing up some crazy story. For most people it involves Cancun, beer, blackouts, boobs, tans and other events of the sort. Doom/Love decided to do things a little differently. We all went our separate ways, seeking out the best of Alaska. Brendan and Ian made a trip to Valdez, while Josh and I went exploring in Danali, Fairbanks, the North Pole, Delta and the Matanuska Valley in our trusty RV. While our story doesn't involve the characteristics listed above, we still had fun. Enjoy.

One of the first pit stops on our way to Denali.... There's nothing like being outside with nothing between you and the mountains, except a big, dirty RV.

First hike, it was extremely windy but well worth it.

So, the big air went super good, but not without some complications. We started pushing snow around at about 9:00 on Friday evening. Started out with about 20 motivated people, but as the nite wore on, we were left with about 5 people shoveling. We ended the nite at 6:30 in the morning. At this point our spirits were pretty low. It was looking like the jump wasnt going to work out.

Peeps started showing at the jump the next day around 1:00. Until about 5, it was still looking grime, but somehow, within the next hour the landing was completely redone and started to look feasible.

Anchorage Fire Department came through four times to ice the runway.

By 6:30, peeps were gettin down. Getting speed showed to be a little tough, but it worked.

The day after the Rondy Big Air started off with blue skies, coffee, eggs and shred. We spent the early part of the day educating the neighborhood on how to catch air on 3' to 4' tall/long stunt-jump lines.

After the landings were bombed out (finished) we headed around the corner to a local uni for some rail slides.

The sun set as a handrail session of the gods went down... it was beautiful.

Here are some highlights. Snowboarding is fun.
